Texas College Lady Steers Make Historic Return to the Playoffs

After 14 years of waiting, perseverance, and rebuilding, the Texas College Lady Steers are headed back to the postseason.

For the first time since the 2011–2012 season, the Texas College women's basketball program has clinched a playoff spot in the highly competitive Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC), marking a historic and emotional milestone for the program.

Leading this resurgence is Head Coach Jamaal Evans, who is in his fifth season at the helm of the Lady Steers. For Coach Evans, this achievement is more than a coaching accomplishment—it is personal.

A proud alumnus of Texas College, Coach Evans has been connected to the institution for 23 years. Since arriving on campus in 2003 as a student, he has faithfully served the College in multiple capacities. Today, in addition to guiding the women's basketball program, he serves as Dean of Students, impacting lives both on and off the court.

The Lady Steers' playoff appearance is especially significant considering the program had not reached the postseason in over a decade. The drought—lasting 14 seasons—became a motivating force for a team determined to change the narrative.

A key part of this season's success is the leadership and experience of six seniors who have anchored the team with resilience, discipline, and Steer pride. Their commitment to excellence has set the tone in the locker room and translated to strong performances on the court. For these seniors, the playoff berth is a fitting reward for years of dedication and sacrifice.

Throughout the season, the Lady Steers demonstrated growth, composure, and competitive fire in RRAC play. Competing in one of the NAIA's toughest conferences, the team proved it could rise to the challenge, securing critical wins and building momentum at the right time.

The return to postseason play signals more than a single-season achievement—it reflects a program on an upward trajectory. Under Coach Evans' leadership, the Lady Steers have steadily rebuilt a culture rooted in accountability, academic excellence, and competitive grit. As a former student-athlete and now campus leader, Evans embodies the spirit of Texas College—educating, mentoring, and inspiring the next generation.

The playoff berth stands as a testament to the vision of the coaching staff, the determination of the players, and the unwavering support of the Texas College community.

As the Lady Steers prepare for postseason competition, they carry with them not only the pride of returning to the playoffs but also the belief that this is just the beginning of a new era for Texas College women's basketball.

Steer Nation now rallies behind a team that has rewritten its story—one defined by resilience, legacy, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
